The Newman Practice
GP Surgery based in Poole, Dorset. The Newman Practice is a partnership, consisting of Dr Shoebridge and Dr Ward. There are also four Salaried GP’s, Dr Newman, Dr Geba, Dr LaBouchardiere and Dr Davies, working in the practice. The Surgery also trains medical students. The Practice holds a contract with NHS Dorset to provide medical services.
Opening Times
Practice premises and telephone lines are open from 8.00am to 6.30 pm Monday to Friday, and we offer an evening clinic on a Thursday from 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.
Following NHS England guidance, surgeries are now required to provide enhanced access appointments between the hours of 6.30pm to 8pm Mondays to Fridays and between 9am and 5pm on Saturdays.
In booking your appointment please be aware that you may be offered an evening or Saturday appointment at a different surgery site but this will be made clear at the time of booking.

Phone Line Opening Times
Practice telephone lines are changing from Monday 27th October 2025.
Lines will be open from 8.00am to 6.30 pm Monday to Friday.
The phone lines will no longer be closed for lunchtime.

Please note submissions before 4pm will be triaged by a clinician on the same day. Requests submitted after 4pm will be reviewed but may not receive a response until the following day. If you need urgent assistance after 4pm, please call the surgery on 01202 338979 and speak to one of our receptionists.

NHS Weight Management Medication Update
The new medication Tirzepatide (Mounjaro®) is being made available on the NHS for eligible patients across the UK, including Dorset.
Around 1,000 people in Dorset are expected to qualify based on national criteria.
However, it won’t be available locally until Autumn 2025, so please don’t contact the practice yet—we’re not able to help with this currently.

Our Practice Manager is Mrs Emma Bentley BA Hons, Dip PPM.
Disabled Access
The Surgery is split over 2 floors, with consultation rooms on each floor. However, for those with a disability suitable access is available and a lift is also available to take patients up to the 1st floor.
We also have a hearing loop available on Reception, with a portable system to aid with any consultations with the clinical staff.
Salaried GP and Retainer GP
We have one female salaried GP, Dr Jo Davies and three male salaried GP’s, Dr Tony Newman, Dr Anas Geba and Dr James LaBouchardiere.
Currently no retainer GP.
Whilst patients cannot register with these doctors, they can always request to see them.
Named accountable GP for all patients
All patients have been allocated a named GP. The named GP is a lead GP – co-ordinator of care but, is not required to deliver all the care to the patient, and is not expected to be available 24/7. The patient still has the right to book a routine appointment with any GP of their choice. If you do not know who your named GP is please ask at reception or when calling next.
If you wish to see a particular member of staff for some or all of your medical conditions please let the receptionist know and they will note this in your records. We will always try to ensure that this is possible, but there may be occasions when it is not possible.
