Friends of the Practice
The Friends of the Practice are run by East Dorset RSVP. The Friends are all unpaid volunteers with the charity RSVP which is a national volunteering organisation and is part of the national charity Community Service Volunteers (CSV). All its volunteers are fully insured and confirmed as being honest, trustworthy and reliable. They are not connected in any way with Social Services or any other agency, so the help or support which patients may be entitled to, or are receiving from them or any other agency will not be affected by support received from the friends.
There are a number of ways in which the friends might be able to help:
- Appointments – at the surgery or hospital (or other important appointments).
- Assistance with simple domestic tasks like changing a light bulb or small DIY jobs;
- Or to help provide human contact and companionable conversation with their Volunteer Befriending by telephone or visiting housebound patients.
There is no tariff of charges as such for their services, but they do rely solely on voluntary donations to cover expenses. So if transport services are used a fair and affordable donation towards the cost of the journey would be appreciated.
Please contact the surgery if you would like to arrange transport etc and your details will be forwarded to the local RSVP helper.
If the idea of being a good neighbour and helping someone who has difficulties appeals, they would be happy to talk to you about what you might be interested in doing. For further information ring Judy Green (10202) 625314, or visit their website below.
On Fridays RSVP run a coffee morning for elderly people at Old Rope Walk, Blandford Road, Hamworthy. A volunteer driver can be arranged to take anybody along who would enjoy the friendly company of people their own age and disposition.
